My name is Jenn .. I was a smoker for 15 years. I had tried to quit several times before. The patch made me sick, the gum was too gross, and the meds didn't make me feel right. I guess back then I wasn't ready to quit.

Well I got sick, really sick. Started out as a sore throat and progressed into a full sinus infection and bronchitis. I always had this rule I just couldn't smoke when I was sick because it made me feel a lot worse.

All total I was sick for a little more than 5 weeks. I'd start to get beter and then I'd relapse. The doctors has no explaination as to why I was so sick for so long. A battery of every single blood test available showed that I only had a minor throat infection that wasn't enough to be classified as 'strep'.

I had realized while I was so concerned with getting better I totally forgot about smoking. It's been a little over two months now and I still get a twinge craving once in awhile but I found other things to quench my cravings. I'm beathing easier, I feel a sh*t load better, and I'm thankful for getting so sick.

The bad part is most of my friends smoke - in their cars, when we go out, etc. Smoke to me is the MOST disgusting smell. My boyfriend doesn't smoke in the car with me anymore, he doesn't smoke around me, and because of that he's actually cut down a lot. The good part is the money I've saved :)

i quit for a week and jogged a lot, and then got sick. it seems like when you get all the blood moving, and your breath pumping, your body starts to clear out.

a really good time to quit, eh? but disgusting as it sounds, i still want to smoke right now, even though i have a cough.

i might join smokers anonymous, on maui.

i think i just have to be mentally ready, and then go ahead and make that decision.

    thanks for sharing your experience.

    aloha
