Quit yesterday afternoon and have been drinking tons of water and toughing it out after 8 years of a pack and a half to two packs a day. It's tough, but I think this time I am just stubborn enough to say screw it...I don't need them anymore.
Another site I went to said the following:
Time Smoke-Free: 1 day, 1 hour, 1 minute and 27 seconds
Cigarettes NOT smoked: 29
Lifetime Saved: 4 hours
Money Saved: $5.44

Re: Quit yesterday
Thu, October 27, 2005 - 2:51 PMCongratulations! That other site sounds cool- do you have a URL? This is a relatively quiet tribe, but very supportive none-the-less. Message me anytime, vent, scream, yell, beg, gloat, whatever.
My quit date was September 20th. I'm still not smoking. Unless you count the few I had when I got drunk after I seriously injured my arm by falling on my stilts. hee. I don't count it because I am in control, I had a few over a series of days, and now I'm off them again. No habit, no need. But everyone's different.
Congrats again, keep it up- you can do it!
Hugs! -

Re: Quit yesterday
Fri, October 28, 2005 - 10:25 AMthanks, you two. yeah, i don't see myself being a non smoker forever. i see having one a month or something along those lines, but I don't ever want to not be in control of starting or stopping again. I haven't had one yet. The urge has been there but I've pushed it away successfully. Drinking so much water that I'm going to the bathroom like every thirty minutes.
It's been interesting....and stilts sound fun. Where does one learn to use those? -

Re: Quit yesterday
Fri, October 28, 2005 - 10:57 AMThanks for the quitnet site reference, I'll be checking that out later.
Gaining control is the first step, but not being fooled by it is the most important part. Now that I am in control, I could easily be fooled into thinking I can maintain it. I have had cravings in the past two days that are stronger than before, because I allowed myself those few, and I know if I give in to them I'm lost. So I'm ignoring them. I even thought about buying a pack last night, but fortunately my sense is still stronger than the little nicotine monkey that rides on my shoulder poking me in the head. I'm saying this as much for me as for you.
I taught myself how to stilt, and it is a load of fun! I can't recommend where to learn, most people build their own and learn from each other. What I do recommend is that if you do it, LEARN HOW TO FALL. If you don't have anyone to teach you, start falling from the ground, then get up on stilts and start falling there. I went without a fall for 3 years- until two weeks ago, and I injured my left arm pretty severely.
I wonder if I can smoke my stilts...LOL... -

Re: Quit yesterday
Fri, October 28, 2005 - 11:19 AMThe ones I keep wanting to try are the Powerisers. I think a Poweriser basketball league would be the funnest thing ever. Now I just need to find a pair of the 7090's for cheap on ebay or something and get other people here in Little Rock to get some. Or I could just do it for myself....either way, they look awesome.
I hear you about learning to fall. Skateboarding taught me that lesson years ago. Sometimes it's good to bump yourself around just to keep your defenses up.
Yeah, if I ever do go back to having a cigarette it's definitely going to be on my own terms. Like I'll say in advance that November 15th, I will have ONE cigarette and that's it. Then that's it.
Thanks for all your help and advice!

Fri, October 28, 2005 - 4:21 PMI keep repeating this, but it's helped me and others I know...
Pick up a copy of "Allen Carr's Easyway To Stop Smoking" at a Barnes & Noble book store or online @ www.barnesandnoble.com . It's real cheap, under $15.

Powerisers
Fri, October 28, 2005 - 10:29 PMHave you joined the Poweriser tribe? It's a great resource, you might even be able to find someone else from Little Rock- membership is growing quickly.
I can't decide if I should ask about Nov 15th...

Re: Quit yesterday
Fri, October 28, 2005 - 10:50 PMBe careful Crip...I quit last year and thought I was in control to just have 1 or 2 every once in awhile. Eventually that led to me starting up again when conditions all lined up for me to rationalize it. Just really make sure you STAY in control...don't let the onezies and twozies sneak up on you and turn into buying a pack.
Now here I am again back here posting my quit day after being clean of smoke for 6 whole months last year.
Great job both of you! I'm right behind you...and I love that website!
5 hours, 47 minutes and 18 seconds smoke free.
7 cigarettes not smoked.
$4.88 and 1 hour of your life saved.
Your quit date: 10/28/2005 8:00:00 PM
(cigarettes are cheap here) $3.25 -

Fri, October 28, 2005 - 10:52 PMHow did I save $4.88 if I would have smoked 7 cigarettes at 3.25 a pack?

Re: Quit yesterday
Fri, October 28, 2005 - 11:17 PMThanks for the advice! I was actually doing some hard thinking about that tonite...still on the fence but leaning more towards forgoing the onezies and twozies for the nonezies...especially after hearing your own experience. Let's get together and kick rationalization's ass, mmkay??
Is the soldier with the kitten you? -

Not me in the picture, I found it online and thought it was pretty cool. When I was in Kuwait my roommate and I adopted a wandering cat. -

Re: Quit yesterday
Sat, October 29, 2005 - 4:28 PMI kind of didn't think that was you, but since pics rarely capture the full view and you only have a couple I wasn't sure.
It is an awesome picture. Shows all that is right and wrong with the world... -

Re: Quit yesterday
Tue, November 1, 2005 - 4:09 PMNext time just remember how nasty it tasted and how bad you felt about it afterwards. Thanks for being honest! You're still doing good...slipping up is just a speedbump. They slow you down but don't stop you. (best to drive around them though)

Re: Quit yesterday
Tue, November 1, 2005 - 4:47 PMI'm feeling like a big fool for slipping up and having that few I had when I was on the boat after I fell and smashed my arm. I'm still in control of the smoking- or not smoking- but it's a lot harder. I had two last night cuz I was all excited and high on endorphins from running around Manhattan on stilts. All it's doing it making me want to smoke because I enjoy it. GRRRRRRR. I don't want to not smoke, but I don't want to die by choking on my own goo. Now I need more strength than I did when I first quit back in September. This sucks.
